TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College women's basketball wrapped a 4-0 week Saturday with a 74-59 Southern States Athletic Conference victory over Middle Georgia State University in Birthright Alumni Hall.
Five-straight 3-pointers set the tone early for Stillman for a 15-5 lead. Stillman shot 66.7% from 3 in the first quarter, but the visiting Knights managed to make it a one-point game, 20-19, at the end of the first quarter.
Alexandra Haymon hit a 3, followed by a
Farrah Pearson layup to maintain Stillman's lead in the first minutes of the second quarter. Pearson scored eight of her 12 points of the game in the second quarter to help the Tigers to a 34-29 halftime lead.
Stillman closed the third quarter on a 16-4 run to lead 55-39 entering the fourth quarter and pulled away from Middle Georgia. Stillman maintained its double-digit lead through the fourth quarter.
Haymon led Stillman with 14 points in the win, while
Raena Suggs joined Pearson with 12 points.
Thaniyah Marks had 11 off the bench, and
Jamariah Turner scored 10. Stillman shot 43% from the floor and 47% from 3-point in the game.
Middle Georgia (3-13, 1-10 SSAC) had four players score in double figures, led by Brianna McRae's 13 points, Chloe Pollock's 11 and 10 apiece from Vanessa Samuel and Lashauna Coley.
Stillman (11-7, 6-5) is now 5-1 in January. The Tigers will close the month on Monday, Jan. 29, hosting Blue Mountain Christian University at 5:30 p.m. The game is a makeup game for the Jan. 20 game postponed due to hazardous winter travel conditions.
