TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Shindig Entertainment Center played host to the first intercollegiate bowling tournament in Tuscaloosa history Jan 13-14. Stillman College welcomed fellow Southern States Athletic Conference foes Blue Mountain Christian University and the University of Mobile, along with the University of Alabama bowling club in the inaugural two-day Throw Down In T-Town.
"It was very enjoyable and something we can bring to the community for years to come. The atmosphere was great, and the teams had a lot of fun. It was competitive and a great spirit to bring to the city of Tuscaloosa," said
Dondrae' Collins, Stillman head coach. "Shindig did an amazing job of housing us. The teams loved the lanes and being in the VIP room."
Each day counted as its own event, giving Stillman's men and women five total events for the season so far. Day 1 included five individual games and 12 Baker games, while Day 2 had three individual games and 20 Baker games.
The University of Mobile men swept both days with team scores of 6,851 on Saturday and 6,692 on Sunday. Blue Mountain won the first day's women's event with 4,653, followed by Mobile on Sunday at 3,753.
Stillman's Mikayla Goins was the top individual on Day 1 of 839. Teammate
Kylee Whitt was second at 836, including a 194 in her fourth game. Goins and Whitt also made the All-Tournament team on Day 2, with Goins finishing third (482) and Whitt fifth (436).
The University of Mobile's Destiny Dill bowled the top single-game scores each day with a 195 on Saturday and a 256 in her final game Sunday to win the second day with a three-game total of 682.
Charles Dunn made his Stillman debut, finishing ninth on the first day of the men's tournament with a five-game total of 888 and single-game high of 203.
Hayes Brown led Stillman on the second day with a 478 through three games, topping out at 175.Â
Mobile's Logan Broussard won the first day with a five-game total of 1,041, and Rams teammate Trace Hauck won the second day at 622. A highlight of the tournament included the University of Alabama club team bowling a perfect 300 during a Baker game on Sunday.
