MOBILE, Ala. - Stillman College women's volleyball continued to show improvements last week despite dropping a pair of three-set matches last week to begin a four-match road trip. The Tigers produced their most points (38) in the short rivalry with the University of Mobile, losing a Southern States Athletic Conference match Friday, 25-7, 25-16 and 25-17. Earlier in the week, Stillman was defeated by Talladega College 25-10, 25-12, 25-16 on Wednesday.
Khadeja Bryant and
Aeraeonna Manuel led Stillman with four kills each in the match at Mobile. On Wednesday, it was
Raine Patterson with a team-best five kills. All three had six kills for the week. Patterson now leads the team with 58 kills through nine matches.
Katelynn Madison had 13 set assists, leading Stillman in both matches with six at Talladega and seven at Mobile.
Gracie Fjeldstad had nine digs against Talladega, while
Emily Powell led Stillman with seven digs at Mobile and finished with 12 for the week.
Stillman led once in the first set at Talladega. At Mobile, after dropping the first set, 25-7, Stillman took a 5-3 lead in the second set. After the Rams took an 8-3 lead, Stillman fought back to make it a one-point match, 13-12, before Mobile built a 7-1 run to lead 20-13. The Tigers were also close at 13-12 in the third set but Mobile rallied to pull away and close out the match.
The Tigers' 36 total digs at Mobile were a season-high in conference action, as were the team's 13 kills, matching Stillman's performance against Loyola and William Carey at home Sept. 8-9.
Stillman (0-9, 0-3 SSAC) will remain on the road this week, traveling to Blue Mountain Christian University and the University of Tennessee Southern on Sept. 22-23.
