SSAC Nominated JaMesha King for NAIA Emil Liston Scholarship

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Stillman (Ala.) women's basketball student-athlete JaMesha King has been selected as the Southern State Athletic Conference's female Emil S. Liston Scholarship Award nominee for 2022-23.

Each conference selects one male and one female honoree to be considered for the NAIA's overall winner, which will be announced in September. The Emil S. Liston Scholarship award recognizes academic and athletic excellence by upperclassmen student-athletes in men's and women's basketball. The award is named in honor of the NAIA's first executive secretary and the prime mover behind the men's basketball tournament. The Emil Liston Scholarship Award has been presented annually since 1950 to one junior men's and one junior women's basketball student-athlete who has shown high athletic and scholastic achievement.

King, a fifth-year senior from Panama City, Florida, is entering her third season with Stillman College. She has a 3.80 GPA while majoring in criminal justice and minoring in psychology. On the court, she averaged 9.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and one block per game in 2022-2023 while shooting 50% overall and 74% from the free throw line.

In addition to basketball, King has been involved in helping mentor student-athletes in Panama City, worked as an Upward Bound resident assistant, and is involved with the National Honors Society, Key Club, Beta Club, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Her honors include Stillman College Dean's List, SSAC Scholar-Athlete Team and SSAC Player of the Week twice.

Her letters of support include her high school coaches (Antonio Snell and Ty Steele), her college coaches (Alico Dunk and KaTia May), as well as Stillman College administrators Dr. Cynthia Warrick (president emerita), Dr. Elizabeth Lowe (executive manager to the president) and Terrance Whittle (athletic director).
