HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Stillman College women's basketball team led early, but the hosting Rust College Bearcats took control in the second quarter on the way to an 88-77 victory Saturday afternoon in Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference action.
The Tigers fell to 11-11 overall and 7-5 in the HBCUAC to close the season.

Stillman jumped out to a five-point lead at the 5:54 mark when
Danyjhia Williams connected on two of her team-leading 23 points with a layup, putting the Tigers on top 14-9. While the lead fluctuated between as much as six and as little as one point throughout the quarter, Stillman left the period with a 26-18 advantage after
Chayce Matthews hit a shot with 16 seconds remaining.
Once
Jordan Harris started the second period with a shot to go up 28-18, the Bearcats went on a 22-0 run to take a 40-28 lead before
Carlisha Enge hit a layup to stop the run. Rust went on to take a 45-32 lead to the locker room.
Early in the third, Rust led by as much as 18 points on two occasions, both times following a layup by Talyia Cawthon. However, the Tigers battled back to cut the lead to nine points with 21 seconds left, as Williams made a three-pointer, moving the margin to 66-57 heading into the final period.
The Tigers whittled the lead to three points after
Jaida Minter hit a three-pointer, making it 67-64 with 7:47 left. However, the Bearcats responded with a 12-0 run to stretch the lead to 15 points with 2:09 remaining. Rust went up 86-69 before settling on an 88-17 victory over Stillman.
Notes and Numbers:
- The 23 points from Danyjhia Williams set a season high for the senior guard. She added four rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals.
- Jaida Minter scored in double digits for the 12th time this season with 16 points.
- Jordan Harris recorded her fourth double-double this season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
