DECATUR, Ala. - A senior set the stage and a pair of freshmen delivered, giving Stillman College a 2-1 walk-off win over Faulkner University to open the Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Championships, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.
Savannah Mayes singled to center to start the bottom of the seventh inning. After Anniston Johnson bunted pinch-runner
Anna Johnson to second, pinch-hitter
Katelyn Lankford drove a 1-2 pitch into the right-center field gap to score the winning run.
Stillman's first win in the SSAC tournament since 2019 sets up a meeting with No. 1 seed University of Mobile in Game 4 of the tournament Thursday afternoon, scheduled for 4 p.m.
Lexi McCray (8-7) went the distance in the circle to give Stillman its 34th win of the season (34-15). She allowed one run off six hits and no walks, while striking out four.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when
Madison Bubel was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a
Bailie Seales double.
Mackenzie Kirby hit a sac fly to left to put Stillman in the driver's seat.
Faulkner fought back to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning. Chloe Davidson started the ingle with a single and scored on a Gracie Pittman double. The Tigers defense helped save the game a few batters later when Seales, the SSAC Gold Glove winning shortstop, threw Pittman out at the plate on a ground ball from Ivey Hill.
