DECATUR, Ala. - Fourth-seed Stillman College will open the Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Championships, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, early Thursday morning with a 10 a.m. start against fifth-seed Faulkner University.
It is the Tigers' highest seed and earliest start in the tournament since joining the SSAC in 2019.
All games will be played at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex. Tickets for the championship are being sold online only at
https://ssacsports.com/tickets with single-day and all-tournament passes available. All games will also be streamed live on
SSACSports.tv.
Picked sixth in the preseason poll, Stillman finished the regular season with the program's best regular season wins total at 33-15, including a 25-5 mark at home. The Tigers recorded wins over then No. 19 William Carey University and No. 10 University of Mobile, finishing 1-3 on the season against both teams and 0-4 against Middle Georgia State University.
Stillman went 3-1 against Faulkner University after sweeping the Eagles in Tuscaloosa in early April. It was the program's first sweep of a conference doubleheader since 2016 and gave Stillman its most wins in its modern NAIA era.
The winner of the Thursday morning game will then face top-seed Mobile at 4 p.m. on Thursday, while the loser will move to the elimination bracket Friday morning at noon.
The Tigers are 2-6 all-time in the SSAC Championships since 2019. Stillman went 2-2 in its first tournament in 2019, eliminating both William Carey and Middle Georgia before losing to Faulkner. Stillman is 0-2 in the tournament against Mobile, meeting the Rams first in both 2021 and 2022, and 0-3 against Brewton-Parker College. The only team Stillman has never faced in Decatur is Blue Mountain Christian University.
