Bubel, McCray, Seales Named Academic All-District®

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Three Stillman College Softball student-athletes have been named to the 2022-23 NAIA Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators.

Madison Bubel, Lexi McCray and Bailie Seales were each named to the Academic All-District® Team, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. All three will now advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 6.

To be nominated for the award, student-athletes must be a starter or primary reserve player that has played in at least 50% of competitions. They must also have at least a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) or higher and be a sophomore both academically and athletically that has been enrolled at the institution for at least one full calendar year.

Seales, a senior from Centerville, Alabama, leads Stillman's selections with a 4.0 GPA in elementary education. In addition to being named to Stillman's President's List, Seales is a Golden Ticket and President's Scholarship recipient. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. On the field, Seales won the 2023 Southern States Athletic Conference Gold Glove at shortstop. She started in all 49 games played for Stillman in 2023, recording a .980 fielding percentage. Offensively, she led the SSAC with 21 walks and 14 hit by pitches. She was third on the team with 28 RBIs and scored 30 runs, while hitting .218 for the Tigers.

Bubel, a junior from Alabaster, Alabama, makes the team with a 3.90 GPA, while majoring in mathematics. In addition to being named to the Dean's List, she is a Presidential Scholarship recipient. A First Team All-SSAC selection, Bubel led Stillman with 36 RBIs, while hitting .331 through 49 games. Her .549 slugging percentage and .419 on base percentage were among the best in the conference. She had 73 total bases with 29 runs scored, leading the team with 14 doubles and adding three triples and three home runs. 

McCray, a junior from Brookwood, Alabama, boasts a 3.53 GPA in psychology. She is a member of Psi Chi honor society and a recipient of the Eye of the Tiger scholarship, in addition to being a Dean's List honoree. A Second Team All-SSAC selection, McCray led Stillman's pitching staff with 11 wins and three saves, while recording 56 strikeouts through 110.1 innings pitched. Her 1.71 ERA was the best on the team. 

Stillman College joined Faulkner University and the University of Mobile as the only SSAC members to receive Academic All-District® honors.

The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball and softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. CSC was formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
