MOBILE, Ala. - Stillman College's upset bid of No. 15 University of Mobile fell short, 3-2, in extra innings of Game 1 on Monday afternoon, before being shut out in the second game, 5-0.
The Tigers fall to 30-12 overall and 12-10 in Southern States Athletic Conference, but remain fourth in the SSAC with six games to play.
GAME 1: No. 15 MOBILE 3, STILLMAN 2
Lauren Haskins beat out a pair of infield singles and stole two bases to lead Stillman's offense in the first game. She now has 44 stolen bases on the season. Her one-out single in the top of the third inning was followed by a
Katelynn Madison bunt single to put runners on the corners.
Katelyn Lankford drove in the first run, and
Madison Bubel drove in the next to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Faith Byram (9-3) held Mobile scoreless through five innings. She finished with three earned runs of eight hits in 7.1 innings.
Both teams were retired in order in the seventh.
Mackenzie Kirby singled with two outs in the top of the eighth, but was left stranded for Stillman.
Ashlyn Stewart drove in the Rams' first run in the bottom of the sixth, and Lillie Lanham tied it, 2-2, with a ground out RBI. Caitlin McRee tripled to start the bottom of the eighth and scored on a one-out sac bunt by Tempest Hebert to walk it off.
Avery Harrell (2-1) recorded the win in 5.2 innings of scoreless relief.
GAME 2: No. 15 MOBILE 5, STILLMAN 0
Aided by three Mobile runs in the third inning and two in the fourth inning, Brittany Goff (13-5) pitched a four-hit, complete-game shutout for the Rams.
Brooklyn Pennington hit 2-for-2 to lead the Tigers, while
Lauren Haskins and
Madison Bubel each had one hit.
Stillman left six runners on base in the game.
Elisabeth Boso (6-2) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs off five hits, one walk and one hit batter in 3.1 innings.
Jasmine Wade allowed two runs in 2.2 innings of relief work. Â
