TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College Softball improved to 6-0 on the season Tuesday, sweeping Oakwood University 15-2 and 9-0 in a pair of five-inning, non-conference games at the SC Softball Complex.
Nineteen different players saw action for Stillman in Game 1, with 10 different Tigers scoring runs. Game 2 was highlighted by a combined no-hitter from
Lexi McCray and
Elisabeth Boso, Stillman's first no-no since March 2017. Lauren Averette recorded the Tigers' last no-hitter at home against Voorhees in 2017.
GAME 1: STILLMAN 15, OAKWOOD 2
Faith Byram (2-0) recorded her second win of the week, pitching a complete game, allowing two runs, none earned, off one hit and two walks. She struck out eight.
Offensively, 10 players combined for 13 hits, as the Tigers produced 15 RBI.
Anniston Jones,
Bailie Seales and
Mackenzie Kirby each had two hits in the first game, while
Savannah Mayes, Seales,
Madison Bubel, Kirby and
Sara Kate Nichols each had two RBI.
The Tigers produced four runs in the first, five in the second and three in the fourth inning.
GAME 2: STILLMAN 9, OAKWOOD 0
Stillman pitchers struck out half of the batters faced in Game 2 as
Lexi McCray (3-0) and
Elisabeth Boso combined for a no-hitter.
McCray did not allow a hit through three innings of work to earn the win. She struck out five of 10 batters faced and allowed one walk. Boso took over in the fourth inning, allowing two free passes with a walk and a hit batter. Boso struck out four of eight batters faced. The only other base runner came on an error to start the top of the second inning.
Carolyn Carter and
Savannah Mayes led Stillman with two hits apiece and three and two RBI, respectively.
Mayes doubled in Carter for the first run of the game in the second inning, and then scored on an error. In the third inning,
Madison Bubel produced a RBI single and later scored on an error to go up 4-0. Carter later added a three-run triple in the fourth inning and scored on a Mayes' RBI single.
Stillman scored two in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth to run-rule the Ambassadors.
NEXT: Stillman (6-0) is scheduled to travel to Southeastern Baptist College in Laurel, Mississippi on Thursday, Feb. 16, but a threat of severe weather may postpone the trip.
