Tigers Collect SSAC Road Win at Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - Stillman College moved to 3-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference men's basketball action Saturday with a 65-62 win at Blue Mountain Christian University. 

Antonio Jones posted a double-double 18 points and 12 rebounds t ogo with four assists and three steals. Marcus Bates Jr led in the post with 17 points. Three Tigers scored six points apiece: Khalil Johnson, Bailey Talley and Michael Taylor.

The game saw four ties in the first 12 minutes before Talley hit a jumper and pair of free throws midway through the first half to tie the game at 21 and give Stillman a 23-21 lead. The Tigers led the rest of the afternoon, including a 37-29 lead at the half following a Taylor basket.

Jones worked the Tigers' lead up to 11 points, 63-52, with 3:41 to play in the game. Looking for its first conference win, Blue Mountain, rallied with a 7-0 run before Jones' layup with two minutes to play that made it 65-59. BMCU's Vincent Douglas hit a 3 with a little over a minute to play to make it a 3-point game, 65-62. The Tigers' defense was able to force a pair of turnovers by Vincent to secure the win. 

The Tigers shot 48% while holding the Toppers to 35% shooting. Stillman also held a +7 advantage on rebounds (31-24).

Stillman (5-3, 3-1 SSAC) will host a pair of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference foes Dec. 5 (Oakwood University) & Dec. 12 (Rust College) at home before closing out December with SSAC games at home against Mobile and Loyola.
