Tigers Complete Sweep of Oakwood

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Bailey Talley posted a double-double in the first half and finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead Stillman College to an 88-64 win over Oakwood University on Tuesday. The win moves the Tigers to 3-0 against Gulf Coast Athletic Conference teams and completes a sweep of the Ambassadors this fall, following a Nov. 11 win in Huntsville.

The Tigers opened the game on a 6-0 run and built its lead to double figures within the first five minutes, 13-2, following a Talley defensive rebound and layup. Stillman's largest lead of the first half was 25 points, 34-9, following a Maurice Harvey 3.

Leading 45-25, Stillman looked to be on track for a lopsided. However, Oakwood came out of the half fighting and worked the margin down to 12 points, 55-43, with 14 minutes to play. Stillman maintained its double-digit lead as it fended off Oakwood and built a 23-7 run to build its largest lead of the night, 85-56 (29 points), on a jumper and 3-pointer from Michael Taylor.

Oakwood's points came largely from four players: Amyr Dickerson (15), Nicholas Kennard (13), Judelin Prophete (12) and Brian Williams (11).

Harvey and Marcus Bates Jr followed Talley with 13 points, and Brenden Lankford-Johnson added 12 points. Antonio Jones narrowly flirted with a double-double scoring nine points and grabbing nine boards. Justin Minter had eight points.

The Tigers out-rebounded Oakwood 45-34.

Stillman (6-3) will travel to Faulkner University on Sunday in its only non-conference game against a Southern States Athletic Conference foe this season. Tipoff is 2 p.m. Stillman will then host three home games Dec. 12-18, including Rust College on Dec. 12.
