TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College came out of the gate hot but was unable to complete an upset of the University of Mobile on Saturday, falling 65-58, in Southern States Athletic Conference action.
Danyjhai Williams led the Tigers with 12 points, while
Thaniyah Marks and
Jamariah Turner each scored 11 points.
Stillman led for the first nine minutes of the game until Alanna Donaldson hit a jumper to give the Rams a 19-17 lead to close the first quarter. The lead changed five times in the second quarter with Stillman going into halftime up 28-27 after Jamesha King intercepted a pass at midcourt and drove to the basket for a fastbreak layup with a minute left in the half.
Mobile's Miriam Oldarcre scored an and-one play off a blocked shot to put the Rams in front to start the second half. Stillman was unable to regain the lead in the final 18 minutes of action. A Jamriah Turner 3-pointer with 1:41 to play made it a 3-point game, 58-55, but Mobile hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final 85 seconds to secure the win.
Alanna Donaldson scored 23 to lead Mobile. Oldarcre finished with 13 points, while Erica Jones had a double-double 10 points and 11 rebounds. Courtney Bradford tallied five blocked shots.
Stillman (6-5, 2-3) will host No. 19 Loyola University (La.) on Monday, Dec. 18 at noon. Admission is $10 for the final games of the semester. Those who donate a new toy will be admitted at $5.
