Tigers Tally SSAC Highs in Loss to Faulkner

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College set a new program record for kills in a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) match with 22 in a three-set loss to Faulkner University at home Saturday. Stillman's 0.96 attack percentage was also the program's best in its return, including the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

After losing the first two sets 25-16 and 25-14, Stillman battled to a 25-23 loss in the third set. It is the Tigers' closest set in SSAC action so far.

Madison Bubel collected a kill to tie the third set, 10-10 as part of a five-point run. An attack error and Anniston Jones service ace gave the Tigers a 12-10 lead. Stillman led by as many as four, 15-11, on a Raine Patterson service ace. Kills by Emily Powell and Gracie Fjeldstad helped Stillman keep its lead late in the set, 21-19, but a Charlee Jordan kill, Stillman attack error and two Kolbi Bates aces flipped the Eagles to the front, 22-21. Two more Tiger errors gave the Eagles match point. Patterson had two straight kills to make it 24-23, but Julie Rice had a kill to put the match away. Rice led Faulkner with eight kills.

Stillman out-hit the Eagles in the third set with a .103 attack percentage.

Aeraeonna Manuel scored 10 points for the Tigers, adding a solo block and two block assists to her team-leading eight kills. Patterson followed with seven kills.

Stillman setter Katelynn Madison matched her career high with 13 assists for the second-straight match. Mandi Hart and Ellie Cyr had 18 and 12 assists, respectively, for the Eagles. Ashton McCullar led Faulkner with 10 digs, while Emily Powell had nine for Stillman.

SSAC play continues next week as Stillman (0-16, 0-9 SSAC) travels to Loyola University in New Orleans on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m., and then William Carey University on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
