TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Three season-highs were met by the team Thursday night, as Stillman College women's volleyball welcomed former Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) rival Miles College to Birthright Alumni Hall for the first time since Halloween 2015. While the Tigers' attempt at an upset fell short in three sets (25-19, 25-22, 25-18), it proved to be one of the best three-set matches Stillman has played in the program's second year of its return.Â
Playing in front of a crowd of more than 200 fans, which included the Blue Pride Marching Band, Stillman College Cheerleaders and the Central High School girls' volleyball team, the Tigers recorded a season-high 29 kills as a team, with a season-best 22 assists. In all, Stillman scored a season-high 37 points that were not opponent errors.Â
Raine Patterson had a career-high 12 kills to lead Stillman's offense, while Areaonna Manuel had 11 kills. It was the first time since the 2015 finale that Stillman had two players with double-digit kills.
Katelynn Madison had a career-high 13 set assists and finished with 10 digs.
Emily Powell had eight digs as libero.Â
Stillman led seven times in the first set, but was unable to close the gap after Miles put together a 6-0 run to lead 14-9. A Manuel kill cut the margin to two points, 21-19, before the Golden Bears closed out the first set win. Set two saw six moments with the Tigers in front, including 12-11, before Miles put together an 8-0 run to lead by six. The Tigers once again fought back to pull within two points, 23-21 on a
Nylah Billingsley service ace, and again at 24-22 on a Miles service error before falling, 25-22.Â
Miles jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the third set, but Stillman battled with a
Rebecca Brogdon service ace and Patterson kill to help pull within two points, 11-9. Stillman later pushed in front, 16-15, as part of a 12-4 run, but Miles iced the match with a 10-2 run.
Kiera Washington led Miles with 13 kills and 11 digs, while setter Anya Creecy had 29 assists.Â
Stillman (0-15) will host Faulkner University in Southern States Athletic Conference action Saturday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.Â
