TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College held the last possession, trailing by two points, but Sy-Marieona Williams blocked
Kelcie Smith's 3-point attempt at the buzzer as the Tigers fell to Brewton-Parker College, 60-58, in Southern States Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
The Tigers trailed for all but 20 seconds in the third quarter. The deficit was as many as 11 points, 20-9, early in the second quarter before Stillman cut the score to 26-23 at halftime. Brewton-Parker continued to lead though until
Laneja Warner hit a 3 with 2:45 left in the third quarter to give Stillman a 36-34 lead. The Barons regained the lead on a pair of Keyanna Tolbert free throws and did not let it go.
BPC worked its lead back up to nine points in the fourth quarter after Stillman closed the gap to three points after 30 minutes of action. The Tigers rallied to keep it a one-possession game in the final two minutes after an
Alexandria Haymon scored four-straight to turn a seven-point deficit into three points, 55-52.
Jordine Moody scored a layup with nine seconds left to pull Stillman within a point, 59-58. Williams hit 1-of-2 free throws to make it a two-point game with seven seconds left.
Ke'Asia McKinney rebounded the miss to give Stillman a chance.
Williams led all players with 28 points. Micah Bess and Angel McRae each had nine rebounds.
Stillman was led in scoring by
Amaria Strong's 12 points and Warner's 10 points. JaMesha King had 10 rebounds, nine points and three blocked shots.
Farrah Pearson had nine rebounds.
Sitting at 12-9 overall, 4-7 in the Southern States, Stillman will travel to the University of Mobile (11-12, 7-6) on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m.
