TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College men's basketball hit the century mark for the second time this week as it won its sixth-straight game with a 100-83 victory over Rust College.
The Tigers shot 60% in the game, including 58% from 3-point range as they completed a season sweep of the Rust Bearcats.
Stillman overcame a 13-point deficit in the first half, 33-20, to lead 40-36 at halftime. The Tigers' 20-3 run in the final four minutes of the half set the pace for the second half.
Khalil Johnson scored 15 of his 24 total points in the final five minutes of the first half, including four 3-pointers.
Rust did not draw closer than nine points twice in the first six minutes of the second half. Stillman led by double digits the rest of the way, shooting 75.9% from the floor in the second half, including 75% (6-of-8) from 3-point range. Marcus Bates Jr scored 17 in the second half to finish with 22 points.
Daviyon Dennis scored 10 in the final 20 minutes to score 16 for the game.
Jamar Jackson and
Derrick Finklea scored 11 and 10 points, respectively to put five Tigers in double figures. Bates shot 82% (9-of-11) from the floor and led Stillman with seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Johnson also had seven rebounds.
Rust was led by Keshon Tabb's 17 points and six steals. Catthadious More scored 11, and the Bearcats received 10 points apiece from Devonte Craven and Keron Williams.
The game featured 10 spectacular dunks, including a slam at the buzzer by Bates to push the final score to 100 points. It is Stillman's 23rd time to score 100 points in
John Teasley's era as head coach, including three against Rust in Birthright.
The Tigers have now won 12 straight in their series history against Rust College.
Stillman (7-3, 3-1 SSAC) will travel to William Carey University on Saturday for a 2 p.m. Southern States Athletic Conference game in Hattiesburg, Miss.
