Stillman Tigers Win Fourth-Straight

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Stillman College men's basketball is riding a four-game win streak after defeating Brewton-Parker College, 88-71, in the Southern States Athletic Conference Game of the Week on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Stillman (5-3, 3-1 SSAC) out-shot the Barons by 11% and grabbed 15 more rebounds to win its third-straight conference game.

Khalil Johnson scored a free throw before the opening tipoff as part of an administrative technical foul on Brewton-Parker, but the Barons quickly found the basket and led throughout the opening half. It was 38-37 BPC at halftime.

Jamar Jackson hit a 3-pointer 92 seconds into the second half to give Stillman its first live-action lead, 40-39. The basket sparked a 13-2 2 for Stillman to build a double-digit lead.

While Brewton-Parker pulled within four points once, 54-48, the Tigers didn't trail again, out-pacing Brewton-Parker 51-33 in the final 18:28 of play. Stillman shot 58% in the second half, while holding Brewton-Parker to 32%.

Four Tigers scored in double figures, led by Derrick Finklea's career-high 24 points. Johnson and Marcus Bates Jr finished with 14 points apiece and Deviyon Dennis scored 13. Johnson also had 13 rebounds for a double-double.

Stillman returns home to Birthright Alumni Hall for a pair of games this coming week, hosting Southeastern Baptist College at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5 and Rust College on Thursday, Dec. 8. The Tigers defeated both teams on the road last month, with the November Southeastern Baptist game counting as an exhibition. Stillman will close the fall semester with a road trip to Mississippi, Dec. 10 and 12 and William Carey University and Blue Mountain College.
