Stillman Defeats Oakwood, 87-57

TUSCALOSOA, Ala. - Stillman College women's basketball cruised to an 87-57 win over Oakwood University to complete a non-conference, season sweep of the Ambassadors Thursday night in Birthright Alumni Hall. 

  
Stillman out-rebounded Oakwood 58-33, led by Jamesha King's eight boards and 12 points. Eight Tigers had at least five rebounds. Jordine Moody and Korryn Millerton each grabbed seven rebounds. 
 
Laneja Warner paced Stillman with 18 points, including a game-high seven free throws to go with her three 3-pointers. Amaria Strong followed with 11 points and six boards. Desiree Tyner and Alexandria Haymon each scored nine. 
 
Oakwood opened the game with a brief lead through the first four minutes, but Moody evened the score with a free throw, 8-8, before Kelcie Smith scored a layup and free throw to push Stillman in front with 4:52 to play in the first quarter. 
 
The Tigers used a 10-0 run to grow their lead and close the quarter up 25-13. Oakwood stayed within two points of Stillman in the second quarter allowing the Tigers to only grow their lead to 14 points at the half, 39-25. 
 
Stillman pulled away in the third quarter, outs-scoring the Ambassadors, 34-23, in the period, almost equaling the first half score. 
 
With the win, Stillman improves to 7-1 overall. The Tigers will have an extended Thanksgiving break with Saturday's game at Talladega College postponed to Feb. 11. Stillman will return to action Dec. 3 at Brewton-Parker College for a noon EST tipoff.
