TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Stillman College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to NCAA Division II opponent Tuskegee University on Tuesday night at the Chappie James Center, falling 25-14, 25-17, 25-22.
Ava Cameron led Stillman (2-5) with 12 kills and 13.5 points, while
Eva Stewart added seven kills, 10 digs and two aces.
Makasia Crawford recorded four kills, and
Kelis Conley and
Karen White combined for 19 assists.
Tuskegee controlled the opening set, racing to a 9-0 lead before the Tigers mounted a late push. White delivered back-to-back aces during a 5-0 run, but the Golden Tigers held on for a 25-14 win.
The second set was more competitive, with Stillman pulling within 17-13 after a Cameron kill and a Conley ace. Tuskegee answered with an 8-4 finish to take the set 25-17.
Stillman saved its best for last, taking a 17-16 lead in the third set behind kills from Cameron and Stewart and a Stewart service ace. Tuskegee responded with a 5-0 run and held off a late Tiger rally to win 25-22.
Stillman finished with 27 kills and 42 digs, while Tuskegee recorded 34 kills and seven blocks.
The Tigers return to action Friday in HBCU Athletic Conference competition against Talladega College at 6 p.m. The evening will serve as First Responder Night in Birthright Alumni Hall.
