TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Stillman College softball team used a big third inning and a complete-game effort from
Jasmine Wade to defeat the Huston-Tillotson University Rams, 6-2, on Sunday in HBCU Athletic Conference action at the Stillman Softball Complex.
With the win, the Tigers moved to 16-17 on the season and 13-2 in HBCUAC action.
Stillman set the tone in the first inning as
Lily Stone reached and came around to score on
Avary Lumpkin's RBI double to left-center. Moments later, Lumpkin crossed the plate when
Katelyn Lankford singled to center, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers broke the game open in the third with a four-run surge built on timely hitting. Lumpkin reached, replaced by
Makynli Kidd, and joined Lankford and
Anna Sullivan on the bases before
Olivia Hobson delivered the decisive swing, driving a triple to right field that cleared the bases and scored all three runners. Hobson later crossed the plate on
Gracie Fjeldstad's sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 6-0.
Stillman's offense was complemented by aggressive baserunning throughout, with
Alex Erwin swiping two bases to help create pressure and scoring opportunities at the top of the lineup.
Huston-Tillotson chipped away late, scoring in the sixth on an RBI single and again in the seventh on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 6-2, but Stillman had already built enough separation.
Jasmine Wade handled the rest in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing two runs on nine hits. She worked efficiently through traffic, inducing 15 fly-ball outs and keeping HTU from stringing together big innings.
Lumpkin (two hits, RBI), Hobson (three RBIs), and Lankford (RBI) paced the offense as Stillman combined timely hitting, baserunning pressure, and steady pitching to secure the win.
