TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Stillman College softball team leaned on timely power, opportunistic baserunning, and a strong pitching combination to secure a 5-0 win over the Rust College Lady Bearcats on Sunday in HBCU Athletic Conference action at the Stillman Softball Complex.
After three scoreless frames to open the game, Stillman broke through in the fourth with a decisive five-run inning. Avery Lumpkin jump-started the rally with a solo home run to left-center, putting the Tigers on the board.
Anna Sullivan followed with a single and later advanced into scoring position, setting the table for continued pressure. Sullivan scored on a wild pitch, while Olvia Hobson advanced to second.
Gracie Fjeldstad added to the inning by reaching on a single, while
Addison Nuspl capped the rally with a three-run homer, driving in both Fjeldstad and Hobson to extend the lead to 5-0.
In the circle,
Jasmine Wade and
Faith Byram combined for the shutout. Wade set the tone with three scoreless innings, limiting Rust's early chances, while Byram closed the door over the final four innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four to earn the win.
Stillman's defense backed the pitching staff with a clean performance, and the Tigers' baserunning continued to apply pressure, highlighted by aggressive advancement from Sullivan and Hobson during the pivotal fourth inning.
