NEW ORLEANS - Stillman College left fielder Jonathatn Phillips was named the HBCU Athletic Conference Baseball Freshman of the Week on March 16 for the second-straight week.
Phillips, hit .750 with four extra base hits, six RBI and five runs in a HBCUAC doubleheader sweep at Oakwood University on Sunday. He had four doubles and one triple during the week, including a double at NCAA Division II Morehouse University in non-conference action.
He currently leads the Tigers and the HBCUAC with a .519 batting average (28-of-54), which is third-best in the NAIA. His 21 RBI, nine doubles and two triples also lead Stillman, while his 19 runs scored are the second-most by a Stillman hitter, and his eight stolen bases are third on the team. Phillips is slugging .759 with 41 total bases.
This is the third HBCUAC Freshman of the Week honor for Stillman. Phillips also received the honor on March 9, and
Emile Butler received the honor on February 24.
Stillman (10-10, 5-2) will travel to the University of Mobile on Tuesday, March 17 for a 1 p.m. game before hosting Rust College for a three-game series
March 21-22.
