TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Stillman College softball team used explosive middle innings and aggressive baserunning to sweep a doubleheader from the Oakwood University Ambassadors on Sunday in HBCU Athletic Conference action, winning 13–5 in five innings in the opener and 10–1 in five innings in the second contest.
Game 1: Stillman 13, Oakwood 5
Stillman struck first in the opening inning when
Avary Lumpkin launched a solo home run to right field, giving the Tigers a 1–0 lead.
The Tigers broke the game open in the third inning.
Addison Nuspl singled and stole second before
Lily Stone lined a single to left that allowed Nuspl to score. Lumpkin followed with an RBI single to plate Stone. Moments later,
Anna Sullivan drove a ball to left for an RBI single that scored Nuspl and pushed the lead to 3–0.
Stillman continued the rally when
Katelyn Lankford doubled to center, bringing home Lumpkin. Sullivan then scored on
Gracie Fjeldstad's RBI single, capping a four-run inning and giving Stillman a 5–0 advantage.
The Tigers added three more runs in the fourth.
Alex Erwin doubled and later scored on Stone's bunt single and Oakwood throwing error. Lumpkin followed with an RBI single to bring Stone home. Later in the inning,
Makynli Kidd crossed the plate, running in place of Lumpkin, extending the lead to 8–0.
Oakwood rallied with five runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 8–5, but Stillman answered immediately in the bottom half.
In the fifth inning, Erwin reached base and advanced on a throwing error before Stone drove her in with an RBI bunt single. Sullivan later delivered a two-run single that scored Stone and Lumpkin. Lankford and Nuspl added runs later in the inning as the Tigers pulled away for a 13–5 victory.
Karli Crocker earned the win for Stillman, pitching five innings and allowing five runs while striking out two.
Game 2: Stillman 10, Oakwood 1
Stillman again jumped ahead early, scoring twice in the first inning.
Erwin reached base and stole second before Lumpkin brought her home with a sacrifice fly. Stone later scored on Sullivan's RBI single, giving the Tigers a 2–0 lead.
The Tigers broke the game open in the second inning with a seven-run outburst.
Fjeldstad started the rally with a single, and Nuspl walked before Erwin delivered an RBI single to bring home Fjeldstad. Stone followed with a walk that loaded the bases before Lumpkin delivered a two-run single to score Erwin and Nuspl.
Sullivan then doubled to right to plate Lumpkin and Stone. Lankford added an RBI double to score Sullivan, and
Addison Seale capped the inning with a two-run single to bring home Jaleah Orr and Lankford, pushing the lead to 9–0.
Stillman added its final run in the third when Erwin singled and later scored on Stone's RBI groundout.
Oakwood managed its lone run in the fourth on a solo home run.
Faith Byram earned the win, allowing just one run on five hits across five innings while striking out two.
