Stillman Opens Road Series against Oakwood with DH Sweep

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Stillman College baseball team opened the HBCU Athletic Conference series against the Oakwood University Ambassadors with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday. The Tigers shut out Oakwood 13-0 in the first game and defeated the Ambassadors 11-2 in the second contest.

Game 1: Stillman 13, Oakwood 0

Stillman struck quickly in the first inning. Cameron Sipp doubled to right field to spark the rally before Davion Wilkins reached base and advanced aggressively on the basepaths. Wilkins stole third and scored when Jonathan Phillips lined an RBI single to center field to give the Tigers a 1–0 lead. Later in the inning, Emile Butler delivered a single to left that scored Cameron Sipp, extending the lead to 2–0.

Stillman added to the advantage in the fourth. Adrian White Jr. scored after Davion Wilkins worked a walk during a bases-loaded sequence. Moments later, Phillips lifted a sacrifice fly to center that brought home Moses, pushing the lead to 4–0. Gavin Rehorn later crossed the plate when Sipp singled, making it 5–0.

The Tigers continued their offensive surge in the fifth inning. Emile Butler reached base and stole third before scoring on a sacrifice fly by White. Shortly after, Wilkins singled to left field to bring home Rehorn. Wilkins then stole second, and Phillips followed with a triple to right field that scored Wilkins and extended the lead to 8–0.

Stillman kept the pressure on in the sixth when Kane Shellhouse scored on an RBI single from White, giving the Tigers a 9–0 advantage.

The Tigers closed their scoring with a four-run seventh inning. John Roland crossed the plate on a wild pitch before Phillips scored on a double by Roland. Additional runs scored during the rally as Stillman pushed the margin to 13–0.

Caleb Vallejo dominated on the mound, throwing a complete-game shutout. The right-hander allowed only two hits across seven innings, walking two and striking out six while facing 28 batters.

Stillman's baserunning created multiple scoring opportunities. Davion Wilkins swiped three bases during the game, while Butler and Rehorn also recorded steals. Aggressive advancement on wild pitches and passed balls helped the Tigers turn base runners into runs throughout the contest.

Wilkins led the offense with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs, while Jonathan Phillips added two hits, three RBIs, and a triple. Sipp, Butler, and Roland each recorded multiple hits.

Game 2: Stillman 11, Oakwood 2

Stillman opened the scoring in the first. Phillips came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Sipp, giving the Tigers a 1–0 lead.

The Tigers broke the game open with a four-run second inning. Sincere Ford crossed the plate on an RBI single by Jordan Harris after stealing both second and third base earlier in the inning. Later in the frame, Harris and Rehorn both scored on a single from Phillips, pushing the Stillman lead to 4–0. Phillips later came around to score on a single by Sipp, extending the advantage to 5–0.

Stillman added two more runs in the third. Michael Moses Jr. reached and eventually came around to score before Ford tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly by Harris, pushing the lead to 7–0.

The Tigers extended the lead in the fourth with a three-run rally. Phillips scored on a wild pitch, and Sipp followed by scoring on a passed ball. Later in the inning, Huddleston crossed the plate on an RBI single by Shellhouse, giving Stillman a 10–0 advantage.

Oakwood answered in the bottom half of the inning. After two walks put runners on base, the Ambassadors used a two-out RBI double to bring home a run and cut the lead to 10–1.

Stillman added its final run in the sixth. DuBose was hit by a pitch and later scored on a passed ball after Shellhouse doubled, pushing the Tigers' lead to 11–1.

Oakwood scored again in the bottom of the sixth after an Ambassador worked a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on an RBI groundout to make it 11–2, which held as the final.

Jett Hopwood earned the win for Stillman, pitching five innings and allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven batters. The Tigers' bullpen finished the job with Tristen Henry tossing a scoreless inning and Marshall Bradberry closing out the game.
