ATLANTA — The Stillman College baseball team split a doubleheader with NCAA Division II opponent the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers on Tuesday at Gresham Park, falling 7–5 in the opener before responding with a 10–6 victory in the nightcap.
Game 1: Morehouse 7, Stillman 5
Stillman jumped out to an early lead in the first inning.
Robert Gage singled and moved to second on a wild pitch before
John Roland drove him home with an RBI single to center. Later in the frame,
Cameron Sipp scored when
Matthew Rivers reached on a fielder's choice, giving the Tigers a 2–0 advantage.
Stillman added another run in the second.
Joshua Harris singled and advanced into scoring position before Gage brought him home with an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 3–0.
Morehouse responded in the third with a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 3–2, but Stillman answered in the sixth.
In that inning,
Javian Rives walked and advanced to third during the rally, while
Joshua Harris also reached base.
Gavin Rehorn delivered the key hit of the inning, lining a two-run single up the middle to score Harris and Rives and push the Tigers ahead 5–2.
Morehouse mounted the decisive rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs, highlighted by a three-run homer to walk off the opener.
Tristen Henry started and worked 3.2 innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out one.
Bobby Woodard pitched two innings in relief and struck out three before Morehouse's late rally.
Stillman was aggressive on the bases early.
Jonathan Phillips stole a base in the first inning, while
Emile Butler advanced to third on the basepaths during a third-inning rally.
Game 2: Stillman 10, Morehouse 6
Stillman responded quickly in the second game, jumping ahead in the first inning when Rivers doubled home Gage to give the Tigers a 1–0 lead.
The Tigers added two more runs in the second.
Tory Huddleston delivered a two-run double that scored Gage and
Davion Wilkins, stretching the lead to 3–0.
After Morehouse scored once in the second and twice in the third to tie the game, Stillman erupted in the fourth.
The Tigers plated five runs in the inning. Joshua Salter advanced into scoring position before Wilkins singled to bring him home. Gage followed with an RBI single to score Wilkins.
Joshua Harris added an RBI double that plated Gage, and Quentin Mitchell lined a two-run single to score Wilkins and Harris. Huddleston capped the inning with a solo home run to left, giving Stillman a commanding 9–4 lead.
Morehouse scored twice in the sixth to close the gap, but Stillman added insurance in the seventh when
Gavin Rehorn reached base and later scored on Wilkins' RBI single.
Deuntre Dunklin earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on four hits while striking out three.
Jonathan Phillips added a scoreless inning in relief, and
Marshall Bradberry closed the game with a clean frame.
Stillman again applied pressure on the bases.
Robert Gage and
Javian Rives each stole bases, helping set up scoring opportunities throughout the game.
