Men’s Basketball Cruises Past Maxwell

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman College Men's basketball team built a 20-point lead at halftime and held on to exactly that on the way to an 89-69 homecoming victory over the Maxwell Flyers Saturday evening in Birthright Alumni Hall. 

Rapid Recap:

The Flyers snuck out to an early 4-0 lead and battled to have an 18-17 lead with 10:48 on the clock. Jordan Fordyce answered with a jumper just seconds later, giving the Tigers the final lead change of the game. 

Stillman steadily built the lead as the half went along and outscored Maxwell 32-11 over the final 10 minutes of the period to take the 49-29 advantage to the locker room. Joshua Price, Adrlin Robinson, and Jordan Fordyce all scored eight points in the first half. Brandon Howard finished right behind them with seven points, and Dasean Sellers had six.

Maxwell and Stillman each scored 40 points in the second half. The Flyers worked the advantage down to just nine points on three separate occasions, with the final time coming at 58-49 with 11:31 on the clock. 

However, this was as close as the Flyers got. The Tigers pushed the lead to 25 points at 84-59 following a three from Price with 4:16 remaining. Price hit another three-pointer with 20 seconds on the clock to push the lead back to 20 as Stillman took an 89-69 victory to cap the homecoming celebration. 

Notes and Numbers:
  • Five Tigers finished in four figures. Joshua Price led the way with a double-double thanks to 17 points and 10 assists. He added two steals and two rebounds. 
  • Jordan Fordyce posted 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in 19 minutes of work.
  • Brandon Howards amassed 13 points, three rebounds, and two assists; Dasean Sellers totaled 12 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a block; Adrelin Robinson earned 10 points, three rebounds, and an assist. 
  • With Talladega dropping an 83-81 decision to Wilberforce, the Tigers have clinched the top seed in the HBCUAC East Division standings. Stillman owns the season tiebreaker over Talladega courtesy of two regular-season wins over the Tornadoes.

Stillman prepares for one final regular-season home contest when Blue Mountain Christian University comes to Birthright on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. for Teacher Appreciation Day. There will be free admission for all educators with an ID.
