TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Stillman College baseball team swept long-time rival Tuskegee University in its home opener Homecoming weekend at Tiger Park.
Stillman (3-1) defeated Tuskegee 7-6 in game one and 20-14 in game two, giving first-year head coach
Rashad Webster his first sweep in his head coaching debut at Tiger Park. Webster took over the program in May after four years as the Tigers' assistant coach.
Tuskegee (1-3) led 5-0 in game one and held a 7-3 lead in game but could not hold either lead.
Stillman centerfielder
Davion Wilkins went 4-for-8 with two runs scored and five RBIs in the twinbill.
Second baseman
Matthew Rivers went 4-for-7 with two runs scored and four RBIs.
GAME 1: Stillman 7, Tuskegee 6
Stillman rallied from a 5-0 deficit to post a 7-6 walk-off win in the opener.
The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the comeback win.
Robert Gage stroked a two-run single to center to score
Matthew Rivers and
Davion Wilkins to cap the winning rally. Wilkins had an RBI single to pull the Tigers to within 6-5.
Gage reached base four times in the opener and finished with three hits, two runs scored, two RBIs, and two stolen bases.
Tuskegee took a 6-4 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Brooks.
The Golden Tigers led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Morrow had a two-run single in the third and C. Smith made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the fourth.
Tuskegee added two runs in the fifth to make it 5-0.
Stillman cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by River and two-out single by Huddleston.
The Tigers cut the deficit to 5-4 with two runs and three hits in the sixth.
Roland (1-0) went the distance and earned the win for Stillman. He allowed six runs and seven hits, with six strikeouts and three walks.
Ross (0-1) suffered the loss for Tuskegee. He allowed three runs and five hits and only recorded two outs.
GAME 2: Stillman 20, Tuskegee 14
Stillman won a 20-14 slugfest in the night cap. The game was called after 5 1/2 innings due to darkness.
Tuskegee led 2-0 and 6-3 but Stiilman fought back each time.
Trailing 6-3 in the third inning, Stiilman scored nine runs to take a 12-7 lead. Rivers and Williams delivered back-to-back two-run singles in the inning. Stillman also benefited from a walk and three hit batters, all with the bases
loaded.
Tuskegee eventually tied the game at 13-13 in the top of the fifth inning. Again, Stillman answered with seven runs in the bottom of fifth to take a 20-13 lead.
Rivers broke the tie with an RBI single and
Daniel Salter followed with a two-run triple to give Stillman a 17-14 lead.
Gavin Rehorn added an RBI single and
Javian Rives stroked a two-run double to make it 20-13.
Zack Munger (1-0) earned the win in relief.
NEXT: Stillman (3-1) will travel to Faulkner University on Tuesday, Feb. 10 for a single game at 1 p.m.
