Stillman Drops Road Game at Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Stillman Tigers fell in a tough non-conference road contest against (RV) Faulkner Eagles 15-5 on Tuesday night.

Both teams were originally slated to play against each other back in January, but the game was canceled due to weather.

The Eagles struck first and fast as they had runners in scoring position with no outs. Then a wild pitch brought home the first run of the game. A sacrifice fly brought home another run. Then a hit up the middle plated two more as the inning ended.

Faulkner packed on two more runs in the second to hold a 6-0 lead. However, the Tigers began to rally in the third.

Davion Wilkins led off the inning with a walk and then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Next, Robert Gage drew a walk and quickly stole second to put two in scoring position. Following a strikeout, Gavin Rehorn hit one to right to plate Wilkins.

Then, Rehorn moved to second off a wild pitch. Mekha Hicks stepped to the plate and drew the third walk of the inning to load the bases for Javian Rives. Next, Rives knocked one through to score two more Tigers to cut the deficit to three.

Tory Huddleston Jr. was at the plate next, and during the at-bat a double steal by Rives and Hicks put runners on second and third. Huddleston managed to draw the fourth walk of the inning for Stillman, loading the bases.

With the tying run on first, Matthew Rivers stood in the box and reached on a fielder's choice to the pitcher, with Hicks getting thrown out at home. Next to the plate was Cameron Sipp who got hit by a pitch to score another run.

The Tigers then returned to the top of the order as Wilkins stood in. He drew the fifth walk by Faulkner to make it a one-run lead before Gage struck out to end the inning.

However, those five runs from the third would be the only ones scored for Stillman for the rest of the game as the Eagles went on to run-rule the game in the bottom of the eighth.

Faulkner was the first NAIA opponent for Stillman (3-2) this season after a 3-1 start against NCAA Division II competition.

The Tigers will be on the road again for their next contest as they take on Xavier University of Louisiana in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 12:00 p.m.
