John Roland, Jr., was named the NAIA Pitcher of the Week and the HBCU Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Roland, a sophomore from Tobotton, Georgia threw the first no-hitter this season by an HBCUAC pitcher in a 10-1 victory over Oakwood University on Thursday, Feb. 19. He struck out nine batters, walked one and hit two batters. He retired the first six batters of the game, recording four strikeouts and two ground outs to the mound. The only run was unearned in the top of the fourth inning, due to an error at shortstop.
In addition to Roland, infielder
Emile Butler was named the HBCUAC Freshman of the Week.
Butler, a freshman from Lilburn, Georgia, started both games of Friday's doubleheader against Oakwood University. He hit .500 (4-for-8) with five runs and five RBI. He drove in two and scored twice in a 3-for-4 first game, and followed it with a 1-for-4 second game, scoring three times and driving in three. His contribution accounted for 10 runs, a quarter of the Tigers' 40-run day.
Stillman (7-6, 3-0 HBCUAC) has the weekend off from conference action and will travel to Alabama A&M University for a non-conference game March 3. The Tigers will return to conference action on March 6-7 against in-state rival Talladega College.
