TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Voorhees University edged out Stillman College 68-65 on Thursday night.
Stillman carried a 40-36 lead into halftime and pushed its advantage to nine in the second half, but Voorhees answered with a late surge and held on in the closing seconds.
Dasean Sellers led the Tigers with 19 points while adding five rebounds, three steals and a block. Josh Price finished with 17 points and six rebounds, and Adrelin Robinson added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Stillman found ways to stay on the front foot despite a cold night from the perimeter, winning the rebounding battle 40-35 and creating extra possessions with 18 offensive boards. The Tigers also turned defense into offense, scoring 15 points off turnovers and finishing with 10 fastbreak points. Stillman did its best work inside, outscoring Voorhees 38-36 in the paint.
Voorhees was led by Rydarius Hill with 19 points, while Xavier Finney added 12.
Stillman is back in action Saturday at 3 p.m. against Talladega College in the Hardwood Meets History Classic rivalry game as the Tigers play to keep the trophy at Stillman.
