Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Drops Pair of Contests at Faulkner Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Day two of the Faulkner University Invitational did not go the way of the Stillman College Volleyball team as the Tigers dropped both matchups on the day with a 3-0 loss to the Reinhardt University Eagles and a straight-set loss to the hosting Faulkner Eagles to close the day.

The Tigers (0-3) started the day with a straight-sets loss to Reinhardt. The first set started in favor of the Eagles as the team posted a 7-2 stretch to start, but Stilman closed the gap with a 10-6 run after a kill by Ava Cameron to move the score to 13-12.

Reinhardt pushed the lead up to 18-14 with Raine Patterson collecting two kills during the stretch. The Eagles closed the opening game on another 7-2 stretch to claim set one 25-16.

The second game was a more back-and-forth affair with both teams posting at least a pair of three-point runs, but Reinhardt came out on top 25-20 in the set.

Reinhardt's attack exploded in the final set as the Eagles took control early with a 10-2 advantage on the way to a 25-6 win in the final game to take the match 3-0.

Patterson led the attack with seven kills, while Katelyn Lawson, Paige Eason and Cameron posted four kills. Kelis Conley passed 12 assists and Shelby Morris led the back row with five digs. Conley and Gracie Fjeldstad finished just behind Morris with four digs each.

Faulkner claimed the opening set against Stillman 25-16. The Tigers and Eagles battled in the first, with Faulkner taking an early 3-0 advantage. From there, the two teams traded points until a service ace from Jaylyn Strength pushed the Eagles ahead 10-5. Faulkner went ahead by as many as nine points before settling on a 25-16 game win.

The Tigers captured their first lead of the season to open the second set 1-0 and eventually went up 3-1. Both teams traded the lead or tied the match 11 times before the Tigers went up 18–14. However, Faulkner stormed back with an 11-2 run to claim the second game 25-20.

In the third, Stillman briefly took a 3-2 lead after a Faulkner attack error. The Eagles regained the lead, but a block by the combination of Brianna Moore and Patterson tied the contest at 4-4. From there, Faulkner took control and rode positive momentum to a 25-17 game win to clinch the 3-0 match sweep.

Cameron led the attack with six kills, Lawson followed with five, while Conley, Eason and Patterson all posted four kills. Patterson and Moore added two blocks each and Eason added a block. Conley and Erin Nelson both passed eight assists. Morris put up 10 digs and Zoey Sales finished with nine digs.

Stilman College returns to action Monday, Sept. 8, against NCAA Division II opponent Tuskegee University on the road, starting at 6 p.m.
