NEW ORLEANS, La. - Stillman College's Terrance Whittle has been named the HBCU Athletic Conference Athletics Director of the Year, the conference announced at its annual summer meetings in May.
"This award is not possible without the hard work, commitment and dedication from our coaches and staff and the success we have experienced this season both athletically and academically," Whittle said. "It is an honor and privilege to witness and celebrate each of our teams, coaches and student-athletes' success this season, and I look forward to the continued work that we are charged to do each day for Stillman College."
During the 2024-2025 year, Stillman College captured HBCU Athletic Conference regular season championships in men's basketball, women's basketball and softball, while producing NAIA national qualifiers from five teams, including men's cross country and men's track & field. The baseball program finished third in the conference and earned its most wins since 2014, while the women's volleyball team, which was reinstated in 2022, collected its first win and conference tournament appearance since 2016. Academically, the department boasted a 3.12 GPA in the Fall 2024 semester.
Whittle also oversaw Stillman hosting the 2025 Hope Credit Union HBCU Athletic Conference Basketball Championships on the Stillman campus for the second-straight year.
During his tenure as athletics director, Stillman College has seen a rebrand of the athletic department, signed a streaming deal with Urban Edge Network and moved to digital ticket sales with HomeTown Ticketing, which has helped increase ticket sales, including reserved seating for basketball games and court side seating for select games.
Stillman College has also consistently received designation as a 5-Star Champion of Character institution by the NAIA, earning Gold status for 2023-24, and performs countless hours of community service and community engagement, including, but not limited to, National Night Out, First Day of School celebrations at local elementary schools, free sport clinics for local youth, partnering with the West Alabama Foodbank and Operation Christmas Child. Whittle also takes pride in establishing an athletic operations intern program to give students an opportunity to get game day experience in the athletics department, as well as integrating faculty & staff in the student-athlete experience by establishing honorary coach days for the campus community.
