Baseball Keeps Tourney Run Going with 14-8 Win over Dillard

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The season continues on for one more game for the Stillman College baseball team as the Tigers avoided elimination with a 14-8 win over Dillard Friday evening in the 2025 Hope Credit Union HBCU Athletic Conference Baseball Championships.

The win marks 27 victories on the season, which is the most for the Tigers since 2016.

Dillard jumped ahead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first from Derrald Moore Jr.

Stillman responded with five straight runs starting in the bottom of the first where a double from Troy Davis to left center brought home Devin Kelly.

Then in the bottom of the third, Davis notched another RBI with a single through the left side as Kobe Lewis scored. Davion Wilkins followed with a single to center field to plate Thedrick Harris. Elijah Anderson capped the rally with a score on a balk to put the Tigers ahead 5-1.

Dillard closed the gap in the top of the fourth, capped by an RBI from Braylon Guerin to move the score to 5-4.

However, the Tigers reopened the lead starting with a Harris single to right field as Lewis touched home. A single through the right side from Wilkins pushed in a run thanks to a score from Harris. Hicks followed with a bunt to the pitcher for Anderson to score. Robert Gage capped the four run inning with a single through the right side for Wilkins to come home and move the score to 9-4.

The Bleu Devils struck back in the top of the sixth with three runs to close the gap again at 9-7.

Unwavering, Stillman struck back in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to left center from Wilkins to knock in Davis. Anderson scored all the way from second on an error by the shortstop. Gavin Rehorn then followed with an RBI to knock in Wilkins. Kelly then used a single to left center for an RBI as Gage scored to push the lead further to 13-7. 

Dillard added another run in the seventh with an RBI single from Maurice Thompson IV to get closer at 13-8.

However, Wilkins came through with a big double to leftfield to drive in Davis in the bottom of the seventh to go up 14-8 which held as the final. 

Davion Wilkins was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and a double, Troy Davis posted a 3-for-4 effort with three runs scored, two doubles, and two RBIs. and Mekha Hicks posted two RBIs off 1-for-4 hitting.

John Roland Jr. (6-3) went five innings in his start and struck out three batters. Caleb Vallejo threw an inning and only allowed a hit. Issac Lopez earned a three inning save and struck out a batter.

Stillman College returns to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. to face the No. 2 seed Wiley University.
