LAUREL, Miss. – The Stillman College baseball team saw an eight-game winning streak concluded after the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers won the opener today. However, the Tigers bounced back to win game two and force a doubleheader split.
SBC captured the first contest 10-2, but the Tigers won the second matchup 6-2.
GAME ONE - SBC 10, Stillman 2
The Tigers struck in the top of the first when
Griff Minor scored on an error by the third baseman.
Southeastern Baptist responded with two straight runs in the bottom of the first and third to take a 2-1 lead.
Daniel Salter tied the contest in the fourth with a single to bring in
Samuel Fleming, but that was as far as the Tigers' offense went in the first game.
SBC posted six runs in a consequential fifth inning and added two more scores in the sixth to reach the 10-2 conclusion.
Davion Wilkins finished 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Salter finished 1-for-3 with the only RBI in the game for Stillman.
Troy Davis was 2-for-3 with a double.
Jaxon Pearson took the loss and threw three strikeouts.
Caleb Schreiner pitched an inning and limited the Chargers to two hits.
Ashton King worked an inning of relief with a strikeout and two hits allowed.
GAME ONE - Stillman 6, SBC 2
The Tigers once again jumped on the Chargers early with
Thedrick Harris scoring on a balk and Micheal Moses scoring on a wild pitch.
In the second inning,
Devin Kelly advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on the same play to push the lead to 3-0.
The lead extended to 5-0 in the fourth after
Robert Gage scored on a passed ball and Harris notched an RBI single to bring
Mekha Hicks home.
Hicks capped the scoring in the second with an RBI after reaching on an error to help Gage score and push the lead to 6-0.
The Chargers avoided the shutout with two runs in the seventh, but Stillman won game two 6-2.
Harris finished as the batting leader with a 2-for-4 effort including an RBI, a double and a run scored. Gage stole a base for the Tigers.
John Roland Jr. earned the win in four innings of work with three strikeouts and only two hits allowed.
Xavier Reyna racked up three strikeouts and scattered two hits in three innings of relief work.
Stillman College returns to HBCU Athletic Conference competition this weekend with a Friday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. against Tougaloo College.
