Softball Extends Win Streak with Sweep over Rust

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman College softball team hosted the Rust College Bearcats for a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at the SC Softball Complex, and the Tigers were victorious in both games with a 12-1 win in the first game and a 6-3 victory in the second contest. The win moves Stillman softball's win streak to 16 games. 

GAME ONE - Stillman 12, Rust 1

Avary Lumpkin started the party with a three-run homer to left-center as Lauren Haskins and Lily Stone scored on the play. 

Then in the second, Gracie Fjeldstad knocked in a run with a single to shortstop as Karli Davidson scored. Haskins was then credited with an RBI after Alex Erwin scored during the at-bat despite Haskins reaching on an error. 

Stone kept the second inning going with a single to right field and Haskins scored on the play. Carolyn Carter capped the rally with a single to right field to bring in Stone and take an 8-0 lead. 

Rust avoided the shutout in the top of the 4th, with an RBI single to center field by Leona Joshua to move the score to 8-1. 

Davidson put the game on ice in the bottom of the fourth with a grand slam down the left-field line as Molly Neal, Racheal Bowman, and Anna Sullivan all scored to move the score to 12-1 which held as the final score. 

With one swing of the bat, Davidson finished as the batting leader with four RBIs, two runs, and a homer. Lumpkin posted a 1-for-2 effort with three RBIs and a homer. Chaluncie Denny hit a triple and Carter smashed a double. 

Haskins reached 125 stolen bases in her time at Stillman College with two steals in the contest. Stone stole a base in the contest.

Faith Byram (7-5) pitched all five innings with a pair of strikeouts.

GAME TWO - Stillman 6, Rust 3

Lumpkin started game two unjust like Game one with a home run to left field, this time a solo shot. 

Haskins added to the lead in the second as she drew a bases-loaded walk for Davidson to score. 

In the fourth, Haskins singled to third base for an RBI as Katelyn Lankford came in from third to move the score to 3-0. 

Stilman added two more runs in the fifth starting with Lankford reaching on an error and Carter coming in to score. Makyleigh Hollinger used a single up the middle to help Lankford score to go up 5-0. 

The Bearcats rallied in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3 highlighted by a two-RBI double to right center for Ciana Rolle.

However, the Tigers added one more run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI for Stone as Haskins sped around to score to push the lead to the 6-3 final. 

Haskins finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two walks, and a stolen base. Lumpkin posted a 2-for-4 effort with a double and a homer. Erwin notched a double and Carter hammered a triple. 

Mackenzie Smith pitched all seven innings, threw four strikeouts and allowed three hits. 

Stillman College will have a day off before traveling to Daphne, Alabama to face the United States Sports Academy for a doubleheader starting at noon.
