Baseball Splits DH with SUNO

NEW ORLEANS – The Stillman College baseball team began the second leg of the New Orleans road trip swing with a HBCU Athletic Conference doubleheader split against Southern University at New Orleans. The Tigers took game one 4-3, but lost the second game of the day 7-0.

GAME ONE - Stillman 4, SUNO 3

SUNO opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer by Miles Bowens to go up 2-0.

Stillman started the rally in the third when Thedrick Harris hit a single up the middle to bring in Gavin Rehorn

Then in the fourth, the Tigers took the lead off a Rehorn double through the right side for two RBIs as Mehka Hicks and Micheal Moses scored. Devin Kelly followed with a sacrifice fly to right field which allowed Davion Wilkins to tag up and score from third to give Stillman a 4-2 lead.

The Knights attempted a rally in the fifth where Kyler Shepherd scored on an error, but that was as close as SUNO would get as Stillman collected a 4-3 win to start the day.

Harris and Wilkins both finished 2-for-3 at the plate with Wilkins collecting a double. Rehorn picked up two RBIs with a double.

Griff Minor picked up the complete game win with a strikeout and only four hits allowed.

GAME TWO - SUNO 7, Stillman 0

Both offenses were quiet until the third inning where SUNO scored three runs capped by a sacrifice fly to bring in Enrique Herazo Jr.

Then in the fourth, the Knights posted four more runs to take a 7-0 lead which held as the final tally.

Griff Minor led at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort. Josh Wilson was 1-for-3 with a double.

Gavin Rehorn (2-2) pitched 3.1 innings with a strikeout and three hits allowed. Javian Rives made a relief appearance with two walks allowed. Caleb Schreiner pitched 1.2 hit-less innings, and Jaxon Pearson pitched an inning in relief with a strikeout and no hits allowed.
