NEW ORLEANS – The Stillman College baseball team began the second leg of the New Orleans road trip swing with a HBCU Athletic Conference doubleheader split against Southern University at New Orleans. The Tigers took game one 4-3, but lost the second game of the day 7-0.
GAME ONE - Stillman 4, SUNO 3
SUNO opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer by Miles Bowens to go up 2-0.
Stillman started the rally in the third when
Thedrick Harris hit a single up the middle to bring in
Gavin Rehorn.
Then in the fourth, the Tigers took the lead off a Rehorn double through the right side for two RBIs as Mehka Hicks and Micheal Moses scored.
Devin Kelly followed with a sacrifice fly to right field which allowed
Davion Wilkins to tag up and score from third to give Stillman a 4-2 lead.
The Knights attempted a rally in the fifth where Kyler Shepherd scored on an error, but that was as close as SUNO would get as Stillman collected a 4-3 win to start the day.
Harris and Wilkins both finished 2-for-3 at the plate with Wilkins collecting a double. Rehorn picked up two RBIs with a double.
Griff Minor picked up the complete game win with a strikeout and only four hits allowed.
GAME TWO - SUNO 7, Stillman 0
Both offenses were quiet until the third inning where SUNO scored three runs capped by a sacrifice fly to bring in Enrique Herazo Jr.
Then in the fourth, the Knights posted four more runs to take a 7-0 lead which held as the final tally.
Griff Minor led at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort.
Josh Wilson was 1-for-3 with a double.
Gavin Rehorn (2-2) pitched 3.1 innings with a strikeout and three hits allowed.
Javian Rives made a relief appearance with two walks allowed.
Caleb Schreiner pitched 1.2 hit-less innings, and
Jaxon Pearson pitched an inning in relief with a strikeout and no hits allowed.
Stillman College (11-15, 10-7) and SUNO meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. to decide the series.
