Baseball Wins HBCUAC Series with 7-2 Victory over SUNO

NEW ORLEANS – The Stillman College baseball team completed a successful trip to the gulf coast as the Tigers earned a 7-2 victory over the Southern University at New Orleans Knights to claim the HBCU Athletic Conference series.

Griff Minor started the action in the first with a single to right field to knock in Gavin Rehorn. Sieas Elliot later drew a bases loaded walk to allow Kobe Lewis to score. Mehka Hicks capped the opening inning with a sacrifice fly to center field which enabled Minor to tag up and trot home from third to put the Tigers up 3-0.

SUNO scored back to back runs to cut the lead to 3-2, starting with an RBI single for Avery Spriggs in the fifth. Later in the seventh inning, Enrique Herazo Jr registered an RBI-single. However, this was as close as the Knights would get.

In the eighth, Elliot notched another RBI when Minor scored to push the lead to 4-2.

The Tigers then put the game out of reach in the ninth starting with a Lewis RBI as Robert Gage scored. Troy Davis then smacked a single solid enough for Rehorn and Devin Kelly to touch home and push the lead to 7-2 which held as the final tally.

Sieas Elliot led the way at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs and a walk.

John Roland Jr. threw seven innings in the start with four strikeouts. Caleb Schreiner converted the two inning save opportunity with a pair of strikeouts.

Stillman College (12-15, 11-7) returns to action Tuesday against Paine College for a non-conference matchup. The midweek doubleheader is set for a 12 p.m. start at Tiger Field in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
