Women’s Basketball Historic Run Ends as Lady Tigers Fall 64-54 to Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Stillman College women's basketball team's record breaking and history making season has come to an end as the Lady Tigers fell in the NAIA Tournament Round of 32 to the #14 Seed Indiana Tech University Warriors 64-54 Saturday afternoon.
 
Stillman ends the season with a  26-6 record, which is the most wins in the program's history and the deepest run the Lady Tigers have ever made in the postseason.

Rapid Recap:

The Lady Tigers opened with a quick 5-0 advantage after Leila Henderson hit a three-pointer with 8:40 on the gap, but Indiana Tech battled to close the gap to work to a 7-7 tie by the 5:14 mark. Stillman built another five-point lead with 2:07 after a made layup from Raena Suggs pushed the lead to 15-11. SC took an 18-17 lead to the second quarter. 

Indiana Tech took its first lead in the second quarter with 6:54 after a made layup by Juliana Burris put the Warriors up 20-18. After trading the lead early in the quarter, the Warriors built a five-point lead before settling on a 30-28 advantage to end the half. 

After Jaida Minter opened the third quarter with a layup to tie the ball game, ITU built a six-point lead on two separate occasions in the period with the last being after a made layup from Jacklyn Crews. However, Minter cut the score to one with a layup and free throw with 20 seconds left. Genevieve Decker responded with a layup with four seconds to go to give the Warriors a 48-45 lead heading to the final quarter. 

In the fateful fourth, Stillman got within four points on four separate occasions with the final coming with 5:09 to go when Minter hit a layup to cut the score to 55-51. However, this was the last gasp for the Lady Tigers as Indiana Tech wen on a 7-0 run to push the lead to 62-51 with 2:07 on the clock. Kashara Preston hit the final bucket of the season with a three at 1:48 on the clock, but the Warriors closed out the game and handed Stillman a 64-54 defeat. 

Notes and Numbers:
-Farrah Pearson led with 20 points and six rebounds; Raena Suggs finished with 10 points. 
-The Lady Tigers finished 19 percent (4-of-21) from three and fell to 1-4 in games with four made threes or fewer.
-Indiana Tech made 30 trips to the the free throw line compared to just five free throw attempts for Stillman. 
-The Lady Tigers were whistled for 24 fouls, while the Warriors received 10 foul calls.
