TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman College baseball team scored four runs in each contest, but the defense did not hold steady for game two against the Wiley University Wildcats. The Tigers won the first contest 4-1 but dropped the second game 18-4 in HBCU Athletic Conference action.
GAME 1 - Stillman 4, Wiley 1
All of the scoring happened in the fourth for both squads. Ivan Del Villar grounded out to first base, allowing Ryan Ready to score the lone run in the contest for the Wildcats.
Stillman responded with four straight runs starting with an RBI single from
Sieas Elliot to knock in
Samuel Fleming.
Gavin Rehorn reached first on a fielder's choice for an RBI when
Troy Davis scored from third.
Devin Kelly followed with an RBI single to left field to bring in Elliot. Rehorn capped the inning by scoring on a wild pitch to give Stillman the 4-1 win.
Kelly led at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort and an RBI. Davis and Fleming both smacked doubles for the Tigers.
Griff Minor went the distance in the game and threw six strikeouts while only allowing two hits, two walks and an earned run.
GAME 2 - Wiley 18, Stillman 4
The Wildcats posted eight runs in the top of the second highlighted by a two-RBI double to right center by Armand Daigre to put Wiley up 7-0. Daigre later scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 8-0.
Stillman scored two in the bottom of the second with patience at the plate. Titus Woods-Ayers was hit-by-pitch for an RBI to bring in
Michael Glover.
Davion Wilkins followed with a bases-loaded walk as Elliot touched home to cut the lead to 8-2.
Wiley added four more runs in the third with RBIs from Ready, Jhan Carlos Javier and Daigre to push the lead to 12-2.
The Tigers responded in the bottom of the third as Elliot hit a single through the left side to help
Mekha Hicks score and move the tally to 12-3.
However, in the fifth, the Wildcats added four runs and then pushed one more run across in the sixth to go up 18-3.
Glover collected a sacrifice fly for an RBI to bring in
Robert Gage and cap the scoring at 18-4 and a win for Wiley.
Gage put together a 2-for-2 effort with a run scored while Elliot went 2-fo-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Gover and Wilkins both drew two walks.
Gavin Rehorn (1-1) went 1.2 innings in the start and allowed eight hits, five earned runs and three walks.
Ashton King went 1.1 innings with a strikeout but allowed four earned runs, three hits and a pair of walks.
Xavier Reyna threw four innings, and tallied two strikeouts, but allowed eight hits, six earned runs, and a walk.
Stillman College (4-7, 3-2) concludes the weekend series against Wiley College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
