TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College baseball suffered its first HBCU Athletic Conference series loss after falling to Wiley University, 15-5, on Saturday at Tiger Field.
A
Kobe Lewis RBI single tied the game in the first inning, and Stillman looked to awaken its bats with the bases loaded and no outs. However, a ground ball to short by
Troy Davis did more than drive in Stillman's second run. What looked to be only a 6-4-3 double play turned into a triple play when Wiley was able to throw across the diamond and retire
Griff Minor at third base.
Wiley capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a run in each the second and fifth innings before adding three on a bases-clearing triple by Smauri Abram in the sixth inning.
Lewis and Minor each singled in runs for Stillman in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it a two-run game, 6-4, but the Tigers only managed one run off Wiley reliever Jalen Porter over the next four innings.
Gavin Rehorn had an RBI ground out in the sixth. Wiley added two runs in the eighth and four more in the top of the ninth.
Four Wiley players had multiple hits.
Stillman (4-8, 3-3 HBCUAC) is scheduled to travel to Philander Smith University in Little Rock, Arkansas next weekend, February 28 - March 1, for its first conference road trip of the year.
