TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman College men's basketball team rallied to force overtime but could not complete the comeback in an 82-77 loss to the Thomas University Night Hawks Tuesday night in Birthright Alumni Hall.
The Tigers (14-10) were down 12 points with 2:41 left when Chris Dorbor hit a layup to put Thomas up 67-55. From there, Stillman went on a 16-4 run capped by a steal and layup by
Jeremiah Miller with five seconds on the clock to force overtime.
In the extra period, the Tigers captured the lead on two occasions with last coming with 4:01 on the clock after a layup from Miller to move the score to 75-73. Unfortunately, Andre Lightbourne drained a three off a rebound by Dorbor to give the Night Hawks a 76-75 lead Thomas never lost.
Stillman gave Thomas one more scare and cut the lead to 78-77 after a layup from
Michael Taylor with 31 seconds left. However, four free throws down the stretch from Dorbor provided enough separation to give the Night Hawks an 82-77 win.
Thomas led most of the contest aside from a brief moment in the first half where
Brenden Lankford-Johnson hit a three to put the Tigers up 6-5 with 16:52 to go. Free throws from Noah Littin gave the lead back to Thomas and the team built a 12-point lead to head to the locker room up 38-26.
Taylor led Stillman in scoring with 21 points, four assists, two rebounds and a steal. Miller posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Lankford-Johnson added 11 points.
As a team, the Tigers shot 40 percent (29-of-72) from the floor, 25.9 percent (7-of-27) from three, and 60 percent (12-of-20) at the free throw line.
Lightbourne led all scorers with 23 points, Lee scored 16, and Dorbor chimed in with 11 points.
Stillman College returns to action Thursday for Tuscaloosa Area Educators Night where the Tigers will honor educators around Tuscaloosa. The contest against Voorhees University also serves as senior night for the team. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
