Men’s Basketball Defeats Talladega in Hardwood Classic

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Stillman College men's basketball team continues its winning ways with a 62-61 victory over the Talladega College Tornadoes Saturday evening in the first Hardwood Classic.

Stillman improved to 5-5 on the season after a fourth straight win and 3-0 in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference, while Talladega fell to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference. 

Rapid Recap:

The Tornadoes grabbed the first big lead of the game and pushed to a 12-point advantage with 10:05 on the clock, where a jumper from Trayon Delmore pushed the lead to 28-16. 

The Tigers worked the deficit down to just three points after a layup from Dasean Sellers cut the score to 29-26 with 3:45 before the half. Dega went up by six twice more before Jordan Fordyce hit three free throws to end the half and cut the lead to 34-31 for the Tornadoes. 

Talladega pushed the lead to seven points on multiple occasions, with the latest instance coming with 11:32 on the clock following a shot from Kenneth Jenkins, Jr. 

Stillman battled back to tie the game 50-50 by the 8:07 mark. Dega rebuilt a four-point lead with 5:40 to go, but by the 2:42 mark, the Tigers went ahead 58-54 following a jumper from Brandon Howard. The Tornadoes tied the matchup one more time with 48 seconds left. However, Stillman scored four straight points to go up 62-58 on the way to the 62-61 win. 

Notes and Numbers:

-Dasean Sellers finished as the leading scorer with 19 points and five rebounds. 
-Jordan Fordyce crossed double-digits with 12 points. Allister Dixon led on the boards with 10 rebounds alongside eight points. 
-The Tigers won the game in the paint and outscored Dega 32-24 down low.
