Men’s Basketball Falls in Season Opener against Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – The Stillman College men's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a road trip against the University of Mobile Rams, where the Tigers dropped a 65-56 decision Tuesday night in H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium.

Stillman commences the season with a 0-1 record, while Mobile improves to 4-1. 

Rapid Recap:

Both teams played evenly throughout the early going until the Rams jumped out to a five-point lead when Alex Hammond hit a three-pointer with 12:24 on the clock, but the lead didn't last long as the Tigers battled back to take an 18-17 advantage with a bucket by Dasean Sellers with 8:26 to go. 

Mobile led by as much as eight points in the first half after a layup by Mason Sword at the 5:49 mark, moved the tally to 26-18. However, Stillman closed the gap with a run to end the half as a dunk by Allister Dixon made the score 28-27 in favor of the Rams, which held as the score as time expired. 

Early in the second half, a free throw by Sellers and a shot from Brandon Howard gave Stillman a 30-28 lead with 19:39 on the clock. Sellers later hit a layup to push the lead to three points at 34-31 with 17:08 to go. 

However, once the score reached 38-38, Jarvis Moss hit a shot to put the Rams on top for good. The Mobile lead built to as much as 12 points with 2:36 to go after a free throw from Kristiyan Vasilev. Howard hit a layup for Stillman with 33 seconds left to bring the final within single digits as the Rams collected a 65-56 victory. 

Notes and Numbers:

-Four Tigers reached double figures. Allister Dixon finished with 12 points and five rebounds in his Tiger debut. Taveon Goode added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench, Dasean Sellers scored 11 with two steals, and Brandon Howard posted 10 points with six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. 

-The difference came from points in the paint against points from beyond the arc. The Tigers dominated the paint 30-14 over Mobile, but the Rams connected on 11-of-21 from three and Stillman finished 3-of-18 behind the line.
