Michael Taylor splashed a three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in second overtime, which proved to be the difference as the Stillman College men's basketball team finished a 3-0 campaign in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference East/West Crossover Tournament Monday night with a 67-65 win over the Philander Smith University Panthers in Birthright Alumni Hall Gymnasium.
In the double OT period, PSU took the early lead with 4:36 on the clock after a three from Elijah Anderson to go up 63-62. Calvin Finch, Jr. connected on a layup in the paint seconds later to close the gap 63-62.
With 3:12 to go, Amorey Womack hit a layup in transition to go up 65-62. Under a minute to go, Taylor hit on two free throws to cut the lead to 65-64 before hitting the decisive game winner 40 seconds later to earn the 67-65 win for Stillman.
Jeremiah Miller posted a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and a pair of steals.
Joshua Price scored 18 points with four assists and four rebounds, Taylor scored five of his seven total points in overtime. Finch led on the boards with 15 rebounds and added a pair of blocks and four points.
Stillman shot 29 percent (20-of-69) from the floor, 30 percent (6-of-20) from three, and 95.5 percent (21-of-22) from the free throw line.
Womack led the way for Philander Smith with 22 points and six rebounds. Raymond Reece posted a double-double as he totaled 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Stillman College (10-6, 8-1) returns to action on the road in Wilberforce, Ohio to face the Wilberforce University Bulldogs on January 9 starting at 6:30 p.m.
