TALLADEGA, Ala. – For the second time this season, the Talladega Tornadoes slowed down the high-flying Stillman College men's basketball team as the Tigers suffered a 62-53 loss on the road in HBCU Athletic Conference action Tuesday night.
The Tornadoes (15-7, 9-5) jumped out to 19-point advantage over the Tigers and led 25-6 with 3:13 left in the first half after a layup from Lamont Sams. Stillman (12-8, 10-3) closed the gap with a 7-2 run to end the period and trailed 27-13 at the half.
The Tigers worked to close the gap in the second half and cut the lead to as much as seven points after a free throw from
Jeremiah Miller cut the score to 50-43 with 3:03 left to go. However, the Tornadoes would not allow Stillman to get any closer than that as lead fluctuated from eight points to 12 points before Talladega settled on a nine-point, 62-53 victory over the Tigers.
Brandon Howard posted 14 points and two rebounds and Miller added 12 points and five rebounds.
Calvin Finch Jr. led on the boards with 11 and added nine points.
From the floor, the Tigers were 31.3 percent (20-of-64) overall, 16.7 percent (4-of-24) from three and, 60 percent (9-of-15) from the line.
Shaun Walker led Dega and went for 19 points and eight rebounds, while Sams posted 12 points.
Stillman College returns to action Thursday in a non-conference match-up against the University of Mobile Rams in Birthright Alumni Hall. It's Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day at Stillman and tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
