Stillman Volleyball Rally Falls Short at Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala. - Stillman College women's volleyball renewed a decades old rivalry Tuesday, Sept. 3, traveling to NCAA Division II for Tuskegee University. The visiting Tigers hung close in the first two sets and one the third set before falling in the match, 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17), in Chappie James Center.

Katlyn Lawson led Stillman with 10 kills for the second-straight match. She is the first Tiger to do so since Areaonna Manuel tallied 13 kills in each of Stillman's first two matches last August. Emily Powell posted a career-high 31 digs on defense.

Stillman led 6-2 early in the first set and later forced a 14-14 tie before the host Golden Tigers scored eight consecutive points. Trailing 22-14, Stillman fought back to 23-20 after Lawson and Ava Cameron each added two kills to a few Tuskegee errors.

In the second set, Stillman closed the gap from an eight-point deficit to trail 12-10. After falling behind by nine, the visiting Tigers rallied again to pull within three points, 24-21, on a Cameron kill.

Stillman led the entire third set. After Tuskegee cut the score to 16-15, Stillman out-scored the Golden Tigers 9-3 down the stretch. Stillman closed the set with three-straight points on kills from Paige Eason and Raine Patterson with a set point ace by Erin Nelson.

The fourth set leaned in favor of Stillman until Tuskegee went on a run to break a 17-17 tie and close out the match, 25-17.

Patterson finished with eight kills in the match, while Cameron and Eason each had five. Eason added five service aces and nine dogs, while Conley had two aces and a season-high 22 set assists.

Next up, Stillman (0-5) will meet another NCAA Division II for on Thursday, Sept. 5 when the Tigers host the Miles College Golden Bears at 6 p.m. for Stillman's home opener in Birthright Alumni Hall.
