TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College split a doubleheader Saturday with Faulkner University, taking the first game 7-1 before falling 11-3 in five innings. The split keeps Stillman (28-6, 12-6) tied for third in the SSAC with Faulkner (19-10, 12-6) and No. 21 Middle Georgia (22-10, 12-6). Middle Georgia swept the University of Mobile (22-11, 13-5) on Sautrday, leaving the trio one game out of second place in the SSAC, and 1.5 games behind first-place William Carey University (24-10, 12-4).
Bailie Seales,
Taylor Roland and
Madison Bubel each had three hits for Stillman on the day, while
Lauren Haskins,
Ivey Moreland and
Carolyn Carter had two hits apiece in the 12 innings of play.
Stillman is scheduled for a 13-day break before returning to action April 19 at home against the University of Tennessee Southern.
GAME 1: STILLMAN 7, FAULKNER 1
Lauren Haskins launched a solo home run to left field in Stillman's first at bat of the game to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. It was her second dinger in as many games. Haskins picked up her second RBI in the second inning when she was hit on her right thigh with the bases loaded.
Taylor Roland followed with a two-RBI single up the middle to give Stillman a 4-0 lead in the second inning.Â
The Tigers added two more runs in the fifth inning with a
Carolyn Carter RBI single and Karli Davidson sac fly.Â
Anna Purvis scored for Faulkner in the sixth inning on an error in left field. Stillman answered in the bottom of the sixth on a
Madison Bubel RBI single to left.Â
Lexi McCray (13-0) remains undefeated on the season. She allowed one unearned run off four hits and three walks in her 10th complete game victory.Â
GAME 2: FAULKNER 11, STILLMAN 3
A two-run first inning and five-run second inning gave Faulkner a 7-0 lead. Craolyn Carter singled up the middle in the bottom of the second to score
Bailie Seales to give Stillman its first run. The Tigers added another run in the third inning when
Lauren Haskins stole home on a double steal attempt.Â
Faulkner produced another big inning in the fourth inning, scoring four to put the run rule in play. The Tigers only managed one more run on an
Ivey Moreland sac fly in the fifth before ending the game.Â
Jasmine Wade (5-2) was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, off six hits in 1.2 innings.
Faith Byram through 1.2 innings in relief, allowing four runs, three earned, before
Elisabeth Boso closed out the final 1.2 innings, allowing only one hit. Boso struck out two of her six batters faced.Â
