Tigers Sweep Blue Mountain to Win Second SSAC Series

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - Stillman College raked 24 hits across two games to bring out the brooms in a Southern States Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader sweep of Blue Mountain Christian University on Saturday, 7-5 and 6-2. The twin bill victories gives Stillman the 2-1 series win over the Toppers and the Tigers' second SSAC series win of the season.

Kelvin Reese and Dylan Speakman led Stillman with four hits in the doubleheader, while Speakman also recorded the save in the first game. Devin Kelly, Kobe Lewis and Tre'en Dorsett each had three hits on the day.

Stillman (11-23, 5-19 SSAC) is scheduled to host Tougaloo College in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 9, weather permitting. The next SSAC series will be April 12-13 at home against Point University.

GAME 1: STILLMAN 7, BLUE MOUNTAIN 5

After giving up a seven-run rally in the seventh inning Friday night, this time it was Stillman rallying in the seventh to collect the win. Trailing 5-4 and down to its last three outs, Stillman scored three runs in the top of the seventh. Kobe Lewis singled to drive in Devin Kelly to tie the game. Thomas Stovall scored on a wild pitch to take the lead, and Lewis scored on a Sieas Elliot single to left for a two-run cushion.

Blue Mountain took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Stillman tied it, 1-1, on a Dylan Speakman RBI single in the third. Elliot and Tre'en Dorsett each drove in runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. The Toppers evened the score in the bottom of the fourth, but a Lewis double in the fifth put the Tigers back on top before BMCU evened the score again in the sixth inning.

Cody Clark (3-1) shut down the Toppers in the sixth and recorded the win. After Clark hit two batters in the bottom of the seventh, Speakman took over on the mound. He got BMCU home run record-holder Arderrius Townsend to pop up to first and retired another before before allowing a walk to load the bases, but pitched out of the jam for his first Stillman save.

Stillman held Townsend to 2-of-11 during the three-game series

GAME 2: STILLMAN 6, BLUE MOUNTAIN 2

Griff Minor (2-3) pitched a nine-inning, complete-game victory for the Tigers, allowing only two hits in the third inning and five total hits. He walked three and struck out four.

Dylan Speakman, Troy Davis and Kobe Lewis each drove in runs in the sixth inning to give Stillman a 3-2 lead. The Tigers expanded their lead with two runs scoring on an error in the seventh and an RBI double by Kelvin Reese in the eighth.

Speakman, Reese and Devin Kelly each had two hits in the game.
