Tigers' Rally Falls Short to Skyhakws in Game 1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College nearly erased an eight-run deficit Friday in a 13-11 loss to Point University in Game 1 of a Southern States Athletic Conference series at Tiger Field.

Trailing 11-3 after five innings, Caleb Schreiner held the Skyhawks scoreless in the sixth through eighth to avoid a potential 10-run rule. Stillman scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut it a one-run game, 11-10. Schreiner allowed only one run total off five hits and three walks through 4.1 innings in relief for Raymon Vaughn (2-6).

The Tigers loaded the bases off Point reliever Cooper Hack to set up a two-run single by Troy Davis. A wild pitch and error in right field led to two more runs. A Cameron Sipp ground out RBI and another error cut the deficit to 11-9. Devin Kelly singled in Stillman' tenth run.

Isaiah Hoskins looked to shut the Skyhawks down in the ninth, but a two-out error scored two runs in the top of the ninth for Point to secure its victory.

Davis reached on an error to start the bottom of the ninth, and pinch runner Geoff Grier later scored on an RBI groundout by Tre'en Dorsett, but that was it for the Tigers.

Earlier in the game, Dylan Speakman doubled to lead off the bottom of the first inning and scored on a ground-out double play by Davis to tie the game, 1-1. Sipp doubled in a go-ahead run in the second inning, 2-1, but Point scored four runs in the top of the third. Kobe Lewis cut the score to 5-3 in the bottom of the third, but the Tigers did not score again until the eighth.

Speakman and Kelly each had three hits in the game with Kelly going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Lewis and Davis each had two hits.

Daniel Crabtree secured the save for Point for Cameron Seiwert's (9-1) win.

Stillman (11-23, 5-20 SSAC) will host Point (25-14, 12-10 SSAC) for a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
